FAQs

Who is BTHS ?

“BTHS is a one-man, cottage business born out of my passion for gardening, international travel, hot peppers, spicy food, and sharing my fresh produce and hot sauces with friends and customers.”- Jon Swanson

Do you ship ?

Nope. Minnesota Cottage Food License does not allow food items to be shipped.

Can I pick up locally ?

Yes please! I prefer customers buy directly from me and/or pick up from the fridge on my porch. Email or message me through Facebook for details.

How do I store my hot sauces and salsas ?

Keep hot sauces refrigerated and shake well before use. Properly stored hot sauces will last 10-12 months. Salsas are shelf stable and good for 1 year, but once opened, must be refrigerated and used with in one week. These products are homemade and not subject to state inspection.

What is the story behind the name ?

I drive my trusty old, blue, 3-speed, 1966 Ford F100 pick up truck (aka Truckceratops) to haul dirt, compost. plants, tools, mulch, and freshly harvested produce. My gardening truck became my brand.

How hot is “hot” ?

My sauces are rated on a heat scale from 1 to 10, 1 being the mildest and 10 the hottest. Please keep in mind levels of heat are subjective, so please judge your heat and comfort levels by the product descriptions. As a reminder, I grow and use many of the hottest peppers in the world. My goal with all my products is to have a balance of heat and flavor, which will complement, not overpower, the food you are cooking. Start with milder sauces and work your way up to the hotter ones.

What is with the dinosaurs ?

I have loved dinosaurs since I was a toddler and I use plastic dinosaurs guard the crops in my gardens. They also serve as conversation starters with strangers while working in my plots at the Prairie Island Campground Community Garden. Plus, kids love dinosaurs.
